With the increasing use of advanced composites in Mega Yacht
construction, the greater the need to involve qualified and experienced people
from the design stage through construction and commissioning.
With a combination
of practical knowledge and experience gained from Mari-Cha III and the personal
construction of 2 International 14’s dinghy's, in carbon foam epoxy.
This with a degree
from The Southampton Solent University, England combines to offer a versatile
and comprehensive range of services, in this complex field.
Having
spent two years on the crew of
Mari-Cha III, nine months
of which was spent at Sensation Yachts Limited (SYL),
plus seven months working at Marten Marine on the hull
construction, over a two year period.
In
depth knowledge and experience were gained. Relating to
the history of research, construction and development of
the yacht, which was ground breaking in many aspects.
Ranging
from construction difficulties, developing from the
sheer size of the hull, material selection, and the
limitations of building to a specific weight. The
limitations of building in composites, in relation to
traditional materials, with regards to the design
office.
This
was backed up with a practical (hands on experience at
Marten Marine) and technical knowledge (through a degree
at The Solent Southampton University), of advanced
composite construction processes and materials and
engineering systems.
